Long had three stations and a bulk plant in Lawrence. The service stations were
located at 640 Massachusetts, (this was also the office of the Lawrence manager, Oliver H.
Prosser.), 300 Locust, and 701 Michigan (Old Oaken Bucket, see photos below.), located on
the southwest corner of 7th and Michigan. 7th street at this time was US40 highway. This
location is now occupied by a vet clinic. Alton D. Smith was the manager of the 701
Michigan station. The Old Oaken Bucket also had a lunch counter. The bulk plant and
warehouse was located at 631 Locust. This bulk plant is still there and is currently being
used as a produce warehouse.
On June 11, 1973 the Lawrence-World Journal newspaper reported that the first Long
station was built in 1911 at 945 New Hampshire St. I have not been able to confirm this.
